Project Management Templates on the Process Line

Issue Manager Screenshot

The Issue Manager template is designed for projects where you merely want to “manage by exception” by only tracking project status and issues related to the project in hand.

Commitment Manager Screenshot

The Commitment Manager template is for where you want to manage more than the issues by managing goals and tasks, but you do not need a fully structured site with a more extensive project management process.

Business Project Manager Screenshot

The Business Project Manager templates provide a semi-structured process (based on a “Plan-Control-Collaborate” approach) that is useful for a range of business departments to run their projects including sales, marketing, engineering, finance, etc.

IT Project Manager Screenshot

The IT Project Manager templates provide a fully structured project management environment and a robust process (based on the Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF) v3) for managing IT projects such as system implementations and upgrades.

Agile Software Manager Screenshot

The Agile Software Manager provides a fully-structured environment for projects that follow Agile methodologies and includes support for typical agile constructs such as iterations, builds, personas, scenarios, requirements, tasks, bugs, etc.

The Scrum template provides an iterative approach that faciliates the breakdown of ‘projects’ into finite periods called Sprints and includes support and constructs for Sprints, Stories, Tasks, Backlogs, Burndown charts, and all the Scrum features necessary to run a Scrum project.

Project Management Templates Overview Movie

BrightWork pmPoint includes a collection of project management templates for managing different types of single projects, each of which can be easily customized to fit local needs and practices. The key value of these templates is that they each contain a certain amount of process. This means that organizations can select a template on a case by case basis, based on the project’s needs and the varying levels of project management maturity in the organization.

All of these templates can co-exist in the same SharePoint environment, allowing you to create a project office hierarchy with the right amount of process for each point in that hierarchy. A key factor in determining the placement of each template on the process line is the number and complexity of the enhanced SharePoint lists included in the project management template.

Issue Manager

The Issue Manager template is designed for projects where you merely want to “manage by exception” by only tracking project status and issues related to the project in hand and do not wish to formally track other details that maybe needed for the project (e.g. actions, tasks, deliverables, risks, etc.). It is not to say that these other items are not managed on some of the projects, but it is to say that they are not tracked formally enough to be reported in a consistent manner

Lists Included: Project Statement; and Project Issues

Commitment Manager

The Commitment Manager template (Project Statement-Commitment–Issue–Action) is a good example of a loosely-structured process where you want to manage more than the issues by managing goals and tasks, but you do not need a fully structured site with a more extensive project management process.  Essentially you are using three to four lists in a SharePoint site to manage the projects in hand.  Other examples on this theme include the SIR process (project Statement, Issue and Risks) or the AIR process (Assumptions, Issues and Requirements), etc. It is still project management but not an overly taxing amount of project management.  This template is also a great starting point for some teams new to a more formal approach to project management.

Lists Included: Project Statement; Commitments; Issues; and Actions

The Business Project Manager templates provide a semi-structured process (based on a “Plan-Control-Collaborate” approach) that is useful for a range of business departments to run their projects including sales, marketing, engineering, finance, etc.

The Business Project Manager template is delivered in three versions that vary on how tasks are managed:

Lists Included: Project Statement, Project Teams, Project Roles, Project Team-Roles, Project Goals, Project Tasks, Project Deliverables, Project Issues, Project Schedule, Project Documents, Project Contacts, Project Calendar

IT Project Manager

The IT Project Manager templates provide a fully structured project management environment. This template builds on the Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF) v3 to provide a robust process for managing IT projects such as system implementations and upgrades. It includes a pre-defined hierarchy of phases, milestones, deliverables, tasks, issues, and risks, etc. in the vein of the traditional waterfall approach to project management.

The IT Project Manager template is delivered in two versions:

Lists Included: Project Statement, Project Teams, Project Roles, Project Team-Roles, Project Goals, Project Change Requests, Project Phases, Project Milestones, Project Deliverables, Project Tasks, Project Risks, Project Issues, Project Schedule, Project Documents, Project Status Reports, Project Contacts, Project Discussions, Project Calendar, Project Post Mortem

Agile Software Manager

The Agile Software Manager provides a fully-structured environment for projects that follow Agile methodologies. This template builds on the Microsoft Solutions Framework for Agile Software Development (also known as MSF v4) and includes support for typical agile constructs such as iterations, builds, personas, scenarios, requirements, tasks, bugs, etc.

Lists Included: Project Charter, Project Teams, Roles Index, Project Team-Roles, Iterations, Builds, Work Documentsm, Scenarios, Quality of Service Requirements, Tasks, Bugs, Risks

Scrum

The Scrum Template is based on the Scrum Alliance Scrum Guide. Scrum is an iterative approach to product development which encourages the breakdown of ‘projects’ into finite periods called Sprints of the same length (normally 20-30 days but it can vary) with a defined deliverable due at the end of the Sprint. This template utilizes unique features in pmPoint to help provide a Scrum environment that includes Sprints, Stories, Tasks, Backlogs, Burndown charts, and all the Scrum features necessary to run a Scrum project
